Earth as an energetic quality of life represents what gives us center, stability, and nourishment. It is the sense of feeling grounded, safe within ourselves, of returning home. When Earth energy in us is balanced, we feel whole, held, and capable of caring for ourselves and others with serenity.

Nourishing Knitwear

ALMA knitwear is designed and handcrafted to make you feel safe, nourished, calm and confident — Soft, functional layers supporting the energetic quality of Earth.

This intention is knitted into ALMA from the selection of natural materials to the look and feel of the final pieces. Precious yarns such as Mohair, Silk, Cashmere, and Alpaca are sourced from certified, traditional Italian spinning mills and then carefully handcrafted into form. The design aesthetic is both raw and refined, reflecting the artisanal manufacturing process and emphasizing the ingenuity of Earth’s natural fibers.

Founded by Susanne Julinek, ALMA is a knitwear studio and brand based in Innsbruck, Austria.

A Creative, Grounding Practice

What first drew me to creating knitwear was the desire to work with my hands and natural materials, the possibility to immediately transform my creative ideas into wearable artefacts. For more than 15 years now, working hands-on with traditional hand-knitting machines has been a creative, grounding practice — balancing the fast-paced, digital dynamics of our time.

This artisanal way of manufacturing manifests in a distinct, somewhat raw, handcrafted aesthetic, while allowing for the creation of one-of-a-kind pieces and small-scale production.

I collaborate with high end brands and ateliers, such as bridal studios, to develop refined, made-to-order pieces.

Collaborations

In addition to my own knitwear label and studio MADE AM CHIEMSEE that I ran full-time from 2012-2017, I have collaborated with many clients — bridal studios, high fashion brands, and concept stores.
